Due To Their insulating properties, polymers of various types tend to accumulate static charge on their surfaces, especially in the case of films and fibers which have a high surface area to volume ratio. This static charge buildup can lead to several undesirable consequences in the final product.
For instance, it can attract dust onto food packaging, resulting in aesthetic issues. In electronics packaging, static charge buildup may damage circuit boards and pose risks of fire or explosion near flammable materials.
Our masterbatches can be used in a variety of manufacturing processes such as extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, film production and paper coating.
The result includes rust-preventing polyethylene film in sheets, bags, stretch film or shrink wrap; rust-preventing paper in cut sheets or on rolls; and rust-resistant plastic. Furthermore, static charge can cause various processing challenges such as difficulties in winding films or melt-spun fibers, agglomeration of powders during transport, and film adhesion issues during processing.
These adverse effects of static charge buildup can be mitigated by utilizing masterbatches containing antistatic agents. These agents are commonly compounded internally with the polymer or applied topically to the surface.
